Introduction
When treating open wounds in pets, safety is just as important as effectiveness. Owners and veterinarians want to know that any topical product won’t introduce harmful substances into the bloodstream. This case study highlights independent lab testing conducted by Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (TVMDL) to evaluate the systemic absorption of Magalum™ Miracle Salve when applied to an open wound.
Background
The subject of this case study was Tucker, a 13-year-old Golden Retriever weighing 92.3 lbs. Tucker was treated with Magalum™ Miracle Salve applied directly to an open wound. To assess whether the salve’s active ingredients entered the bloodstream, blood specimens were taken before and after application.
Methodology
-
Lab: TVMDL – College Station
-
Case Coordinator: Dr. Julie Piccione, DVM, MS, DACVP
-
Test: Serum Magnesium Levels
-
Collection Points:
-
Pre-Application (09/14/2022)
-
Post-Application (09/15/2022)
-
The focus was on magnesium levels, as this represented the active component under evaluation.
Results
-
Pre-Application Magnesium Level: 1.6 mEq/L (Reference Range: 1.4 – 4.1)
-
Post-Application Magnesium Level: 1.6 mEq/L (Reference Range: 1.4 – 4.1)
The results showed no change in blood magnesium levels between pre- and post-application samples.

Conclusion
Independent analysis confirmed that the active ingredient in Magalum™ Miracle Salve did not pass into the bloodstream, even when applied to an open wound. This finding supports the product’s safety for external use on pets, giving veterinarians and pet owners confidence in its application for wound care and skin irritation management.
Key Takeaway
Magalum™ Miracle Salve provides a safe topical solution for pets, helping wounds heal without systemic absorption concerns. This lab-verified safety profile sets it apart as a reliable option for animal care professionals and pet owners alike.
